Members Code of Conduct

All members of HBAC are expected to follow this Code of Conduct to ensure a safe, respectful, and enjoyable environment for everyone.

Our Values

As a member of Haslemere Border Athletic Club, you represent the club both on and off the track. We expect all members to uphold our core values:

Respect

Treat all members, coaches, officials, and competitors with respect

Integrity

Be honest and act with integrity in all club activities

Inclusivity

Welcome and support members of all abilities and backgrounds

Excellence

Strive to do your best while supporting others to do theirs

Expected Behaviour

As a member of HBAC, you should:

  • Respect the rights, dignity, and worth of every person
  • Follow all club rules, policies, and procedures
  • Be punctual and attend training sessions you have committed to
  • Wear appropriate training and competition clothing
  • Support and encourage fellow club members
  • Respect coaches' decisions and instructions
  • Respect opponents and officials at all times
  • Report any concerns or incidents to the appropriate person
  • Take responsibility for your own actions and behaviour
  • Promote fair play and good sportsmanship
  • Look after club equipment and facilities
  • Pay membership fees and other charges on time

Unacceptable Behaviour

The following behaviours will not be tolerated:

  • Bullying, harassment, or discrimination of any kind
  • Physical, emotional, or sexual abuse
  • Use of inappropriate or offensive language
  • Violent or aggressive behaviour
  • Use of performance-enhancing drugs or banned substances
  • Cheating or attempting to gain an unfair advantage
  • Disrespecting coaches, officials, or other members
  • Damage to club property or facilities
  • Consuming alcohol or illegal substances before or during training/competition
  • Inappropriate use of social media to damage the club's reputation

Social Media

When using social media in relation to HBAC:

  • Remember you represent the club
  • Be respectful and considerate in all posts and comments
  • Do not post anything that could bring the club into disrepute
  • Do not share confidential club information
  • Respect the privacy of other members
  • Follow our Photography & Consent Policy when sharing images
  • Report any concerning behaviour to the Club Welfare Officer

At Competitions

When representing HBAC at competitions:

  • Wear club colours with pride
  • Arrive on time and properly prepared
  • Follow all competition rules and regulations
  • Accept officials' decisions gracefully
  • Congratulate winners and console those who don't win
  • Be a good ambassador for the club
  • Leave facilities clean and tidy

Health & Safety

For your safety and the safety of others:

  • Follow all health and safety guidelines
  • Inform coaches of any injuries or medical conditions
  • Warm up and cool down properly
  • Stay hydrated during training and competition
  • Report any hazards or safety concerns immediately
  • Do not train if unwell or injured

Breach of Code

Breach of this Code of Conduct may result in:

  1. Verbal warning
  2. Written warning
  3. Temporary suspension from training and/or competition
  4. Termination of membership
  5. Reporting to relevant authorities (if criminal offence)

The club committee will determine appropriate action based on the severity and frequency of the breach.

Reporting Concerns

If you witness or experience behaviour that breaches this Code of Conduct:

  • • Speak to your coach or a committee member
  • • Contact the Club Welfare Officer: welfare@hbac.co.uk

All reports will be treated seriously and confidentially.
