Choose the Right Running Shoes
Visit a specialist running shop for a gait analysis. They'll watch you run and recommend shoes that match your foot strike and pronation. Road shoes have more cushioning for pavement, while trail shoes have aggressive grip for off-road terrain.
All Tips
Road vs Trail Shoes
Road running shoes are designed for pavement with cushioning and flexibility. Trail shoes have stiffer soles, rock plates for protection, and lugged outsoles for grip on mud and loose terrain. Don't use road shoes on trails - you'll slip!
Stability vs Neutral Shoes
Neutral shoes work for runners with normal pronation. If you overpronate (feet roll inward), stability shoes provide medial support. Get a gait analysis to find out which you need - the wrong type can cause injuries.
When to Replace Running Shoes
Most running shoes last 400-500 miles. Signs they need replacing: worn tread, compressed midsole, new aches and pains, or the shoes feel "dead". Track your mileage to know when it's time.
Dress for 10 Degrees Warmer
When choosing running clothes, dress as if it's 10°C warmer than the actual temperature. You'll warm up quickly once running. If you're comfortable standing still, you're overdressed.
