How Registration Works

1. Join HBAC

When you complete your HBAC membership application, you'll provide your details and pay the combined club and EA registration fee.

2. Club Registers You

Our club administrator registers you with England Athletics through the myAthletics portal, usually within 7 days of joining.

3. Receive Confirmation

You'll receive an email from England Athletics confirming your registration and providing your athlete number (URN).

4. Access Benefits

Your insurance is active immediately. You can access online resources, discounts, and compete in licensed events.

Registration Fees

EA registration is included in your HBAC membership:

Senior (18+): HBAC membership £40 + EA £17 = £57 total

Student/U23: HBAC membership £25 + EA £17 = £42 total

Junior (U18): HBAC membership £25 + EA £10 = £35 total

EA fees are set nationally and reviewed annually. Fees shown are for 2025/26 season.

Competition Licenses

For track & field and certain road race championships, you may need an additional competition license:

Track & Field License

Required for track and field competitions (including some road races).

£17 per year

Road Running License

For specific road race championships and some licensed road races.

£17 per year

Most club members don't need additional licenses for regular training and social running. Your club membership covers cross country leagues and most road races.

Your Athlete Number (URN)

When registered with EA, you receive a Unique Reference Number (URN). This number:

  • Stays with you for life, even if you change clubs
  • Links your competition results across all events
  • Is used for Power of 10 and RunBritain rankings
  • May be required when entering licensed events

Already have a URN? Let us know when you join HBAC so we can transfer your registration rather than creating a new one.

  • Training advice and coaching resources
  • Injury prevention and rehabilitation guidance
  • Nutrition information for athletes
  • Competition calendars and entry information

Renewal

EA registration runs for one year (April to March). When you renew your HBAC membership, your EA registration is renewed automatically.

Tip: Early renewal (before March 31st) ensures continuous insurance coverage and prevents any gap in your competition eligibility.
