HBAC was delighted to be represented at the formal opening of the Phil Baker Athletics Track at Chichester College, a new facility planned and delivered by Chichester Runners & AC.

Sammy French, Chair of HBAC, attended the official opening, joining athletes, volunteers, families and supporters as Phil Baker formally opened the track on 28 June 2026.

The opening took place on a beautiful summer day, with the new red track looking superb against the college grounds. The photographs show the track set up for the occasion, with Chichester Runners flags, gazebos and event equipment ready for an afternoon of running.

Chichester Runners describe the Phil Baker Athletics Track as a 300m all-weather training track with three lanes, banked corners, a separate 60m sprint straight and a warm-up area. The track has been certified for Level 1 events and was created after many years of planning and fundraising.

The track is named after Phil Baker, one of the founders of Chichester Runners and a long-serving figure in the club as coach, organiser and team manager.

Congratulations to Chichester Runners & AC on bringing this project to life. It is a brilliant example of what a club can achieve through partnership, persistence and volunteer effort.
